Soothing our Disappointments...

03:00PM, Saturday, August 23, 2008 by Kate Drzycimski | Comment [1]

We were supposed to have the Sprays here this weekend since Dan had a bike race in town, but unfortunately most of us are sick, so we are alone and disappointed. Why not catch up on posting, right?!?

Mark and I try to get away for a quick overnight trip by ourselves every now and then (okay, so it is once every pregnancy because there’s no baby nursing then!). We went the first part of August. The boys stayed with Gma Merri and Gpa Greg, and Addie stayed with Gma Kathy. The kids had a wonderful time, I’m pretty sure the grandparents enjoyed themselves too, and of course Mark and I really appreciated 24 hours to ourselves. Sounds like Addie spent a lot of time on Gpa Dan’s “bed” (a cot they had set up in the living room while he recovers from some back problems).

We’ve lived in Sioux Falls for almost 2 years now, and we still get asked “So how do like Sioux Falls?”. :-) We really do enjoy Sioux Falls. It’s a bigger town than what I ever thought we’d end up in, but after living here awhile, it just doesn’t feel that “big”! (And of course people from truly larger cities would tell us that it really isn’t that big!) Anyway, we’ve enjoyed the parks in town, and some friends recently introduced us to the town’s Spray Park. The kids loved it, even the older ones. (And it’s free!)

Addie is finally walking. Whew. She started a couple weeks ago and is good and settled in it now. (She’ll be 18 months old the beginning of September). I’ve talked to other people who have commented that their children who grew up around a lot of hardwood floors started walking later than their children who had more carpeting. So, we’ll blame it on that. :-) Now that she’s walking though, we’ve pulled her couple of dolls out more often (she liked her babies before, but it’s kinda hard to crawl and hold a baby). I’ve been waiting for this since I’ve been a bit concerned that she really only has boy toys to play with. We made her baby a bed out of a shoe box, and I decided I could find a cheap doll stroller fairly easily. Nope. None to be found. Can you believe that? I haven’t searched every store, but I thought for sure this was going to be easy! I had also decided I’d pick her up a few girl toys since Christmas is so far away, but I didn’t have any luck on that either. Guess I’m too picky.

Pigtail bedhead. :-)

I’ve got lots more to post about (someday), but had to pass this one on…

Palisades

Abram’s 5th birthday is coming up on the 17th. He mentioned last week that he would like to go to Palisades for his birthday. I’m not too impressed with the 90 degree days, so I told him we’d go if we found a nice day some time. Well, this weekend we were blessed with beautiful weather, less than 80 degrees, nice breeze. Mark had things to do Saturday morning, but we finally made it up to Palisades (it’s about a half hour drive) by 5pm. We had time for walking three of the trails (only missed one) and a picnic supper. Just couldn’t have asked for a better evening! And nobody fell in the water. :-) (Oh, and that’s a baby bunny in the picture. Josiah and I discovered some baby rabbits while we watched the big boys do their climbing).

Whoa...time to catch up...

So…trip to Iowa over Memorial Day, trip to Norfolk in mid-June (first time back since we moved, and got to celebrate Ben’s birthday!), trip back to Iowa again later in June for a reunion at the Drzycimski’s (but stayed at Gma Kathy’s and Gpa Dan’s and got to spend some fun cousin time with Blake and Emma!), and a visit from Gpa Greg and Gma Merri over July 4th! And what did we do back here at home for the whole month of June? House purging. (Cleaning/sorting/organizing/lots of throwing away! Yes, it did take us the whole month…kinda hard to find free time around here.) And time to breathe now? Nope, back to schoolwork. :-) Kinda missed that though…

Proper Spellings....

I just now noticed that my husband (who so graciously posted the video for me!), spelled Addie’s name Addy. If both of us agree on spellings by the time she’s married, I’ll be impressed. Otherwise, you can expect wedding announcements with more than one “typo.” :-)

First Flight

Last summer, a friend from church offered to take Mark and the older two up in his one-engine plane, but the plane was having problems that day, and they never got to fly. This time was much more successful, and even though the boys look like they’re in pain in one of those pictures, they had a wonderful time (“but it was really bumpy!”).

Trip to Iowa

We made it to Iowa at the end of April, but we missed seeing the extended family from Montana and other parts of the world. We still got to spend some time with Grandma Kathy and Grandpa Dan, and even got to share the visit with the Sprays! Yay!
